Bernard R. Kern, MSgt (Retired) 86, journeyed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on November 25, 2017. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Paul and Emma (Neincehelscer) Kern. \"Bernie\" was a proud American and Korean War veteran who served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was also a proud member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and served in its 193rd Special Operations Group. Bernie's favorite hobby was trains - he was a true rail fan! He enjoyed the local Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad very much and was a self-taught highly skilled model railroader who built several displays over the years. Excursions for train rides and train photography were high on his list and it would be hard to find a train Bernie did not travel on or photograph. Baseball was his favorite sport and his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals - he enjoyed its legendary players such as Stan Musial, Roger Maris, Lou Brock and Bob Gibson. Bernard belonged to the American Legion and Keystone Fire Company # 1, Shillington for many years and was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Vacations often featured another hobby of his, American history and over the years he took his family to several historical sites around the country. Bernie will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years (and train-riding companion) Azailene \"Macy\" (Pachla) Kern, his beloved Yorkie \"Rowdy\", daughter Rickie Ann (Deysher) Schaab and husband David, daughter Kathy Yannes and husband Gary, grandchildren Theresa Schaab and Donna (Schaab) Freydlin and husband Stan, great-grandchildren Leonid and Dmitriy Freydlin, his sister Leona (Kern) Mayernik, nephews Michael Mayernik, Robert Mayernik, and niece LeeAnn Mayernik.
