Bruce C. Mitchell, 78, of Mohnton, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Reading Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Harvey E. and Gladys R. (Witmor) Mitchell. He celebrated 32 years of marriage with his devoted wife, JoAnn (Bonanno) Mitchell.
A 1965 graduate of Easton Area High School, Bruce went on to earn an associate degree from Penn State University. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an electrical engineer, working for Gilbert Associates, Inc. and CarTech before founding his own highly successful business, The Control House. Through his work, he partnered with many local companies, and took great pride in designing and building high-quality electrical machinery, including a notable project for the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville. He retired in 2014.
Bruce found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved taking long drives in his bright red Camaro—reserved strictly for sunny days, never in the rain. He also enjoyed playing tennis with JoAnn and their close friends, walking at the mall, where he made many new friends, and actively exercising, most recently at Berks Encore in Shillington. He was always the consummate handyman around the house, especially tinkering with appliances to keep them running smoothly.
Earlier in life, Bruce and JoAnn shared a love of travel, exploring destinations across the country, with Hawaii holding a special place in their hearts. For years, he and JoAnn traveled to Litchfield in Myrtle Beach with tennis friends to spend the week playing tennis. In later years, Bruce’s greatest joy was spending time with his precious grandchildren.
More than anything, Bruce cherished time spent with family. Each year, he especially looked forward to Thanksgiving, when the entire family would gather in Bruce and JoAnn’s home to share great food, warm fellowship, laughter, and the kind of memories that will be treasured for years to come.
In addition to his loving wife, Bruce is survived by his step-daughter, Angie Drebushenko, widow of Keith, of Wyomissing; his step-son, Chris Perrotto, husband of Melissa, of Phoenixville; and his beloved grandchildren, Laura and Erin Drebushenko, and Gabrielle and Alex Perrotto. He was predeceased by a brother, Barry Mitchell.
