Dean Gerhart Obituary

Dean J. Gerhart, 56, of West Lawn passed away April 11, 2017 at 3:43 PM in his residence with his adoring family by his side. He was the husband of Linda L. (Howe) Gerhart. They shared 32 loving years together. Born in Lebanon, PA he was the son of the late Jacob W. and Virginia (Keim) Gerhart. He was a carpenter his entire life working with the Carpenters Union Local # 492, but a jack of all trades nonetheless. He attended Reading High School, followed by serving in the U.S. Army. He was very sports minded. He loved the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles. As a child, he played basketball around the clock. As an adult, he played countless years in an over-30 hardball league. Dean passed his love of sports onto his children by coaching for their youth teams. Dean was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Reading and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He spent much of his childhood on the farm, appreciating the simple things. He enjoyed shooting pool, collecting antiques and music; especially playing concerts in his bedroom. He loved his dogs - Bentley and Beamer. Dean lived for his family, he was the GO TO person and the family ROCK. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his children - Randy L. Dease, West Lawn, Ashley L. Gerhart companion of Cory DiGuardi, Blandon, his siblings - Yvonne M. wife of Timothy Kravatz, Muhlenberg Twp., Wanda L. Stitzel, West Lawn, Linda L. wife of Arthur Kuhn, Saginaw, MI, Barbara A. wife of Kenneth Chamuras, Muhlenberg Twp., William K. Zeiber husband of Dorthea, Slate Run, PA, Mark husband of Dawn Detterline, Reading, his grandchildren - Delanie Lynn and Aiden Michael Dease, his brother-in-law's - David Howe and Robert Howe, both of Exeter Twp., and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Klee Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., One East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington starting at 7:00 PM. Rev. Carol Kehler will officiate. Viewing on Monday from 5:00-7:00 at the funeral home. Interment in Zion Cemetery, Windsor Castle, will take place Tuesday at the convenience of the family. Dean was a proud supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please honor his memory by making contributions, in lieu of flowers, to St. Jude at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
