Dennis Keffer Obituary

Joyce M. (Esterly) Keffer, 73, and Dennis H. \"Red\" Keffer, 75, of Pennwyn, passed away from a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 61 in Shoemakersville. Joyce was pronounced at the scene on October 19th and Dennis passed on October 20th in the Reading Hospital. They shared 51 years of marriage. Joyce was born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Karl R. and Margaret M. (Miuccio) Esterly. She was a 1963 graduate of Wilson High School. Joyce worked at the former Bank of PA (now M&T), Great Valley Bank (now Fulton), Sovereign Bank (now Santander), the Borough of Shillington and KNK Medical Dental. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohnton, where she served on their Church Board. Joyce served on the Camp Fire Girls Board, Secretary to Mifflin Broncos Organization, GFWC Women's Club of Mohnton - serving in the capacity of President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. Also, Mifflin Community Center Organization as Recording Secretary, Mifflin Area YMCA and Recording Secretary and Chairman of the Board, served on the Reading/Berks YMCA Corporate Board, Marsh Madness Committee and Financial Development Committee with the YMCA and was a Camp Fire Leader when her daughter was in grade school. Joyce was instrumental in organizing mini class reunions for her class, part of the committee for all reunions, in charge of pig roast fundraiser for Women's Club, represented Women's Club and the Mifflin Area YMCA for Community Days, and in charge of fundraiser Mifflin Area YMCA doing Kauffman's BBQ Chicken Bakes. Dennis was born in Reading, he was the son of the late Harold H. & Emma (Eichner) Keffer. He was a 1963 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School. Dennis worked at Glen Gery Brick, Wyomissing and lastly as an HVAC technician for D.J. Witman (now Petro). He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohnton, Goodwill Beneficial, Pennwyn Motor Assn. and Mifflin Area JC's. They are survived by their children - Dennette J. wife of John \"Jack\" Keller, Schuylkill Haven, Scott D. husband of Stephanie (Wissen) Keffer, Madison, Wisconsin, their grandchildren - Cortney Jackson, Shillington, Laney and Savi Keffer, Madison, Wisconsin, Nephews and Nieces - Elizabeth Garner, Ann Lease. Alex Garner and Brian Lease. Joyce is also survived by her sister - Deborah (Esterly) wife of Walter Garner, West Lawn and lots of cousins and many dear friends. Dennis was predeceased by his sister - Patricia (Keffer) Lease (2014) and nephews Nathan Lease (1980) and Shawn Lease (2018). Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., One East Lancaster Ave., Shillington and again on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 AM followed by the funeral service beginning at 10 AM officiated by Pastor Rachael Dietz.
