E. Keith Weikel Obituary

        E. Keith Weikel, 75, of Lower Heidelberg Township, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024 in his home.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Edgar J. Weikel, Jr and Mary Jane (Riegel) Weikel Anderson.

Keith, who earned the distinctions of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow as a boy, went on to serve in the Army Security Agency as a young man. After his 1967 graduation from Wilson High School in West Lawn, he served first in Germany, then Vietnam earning various medals for his service. Upon returning from service, he attended Penn State University, then became a career engineer for the Reading Railroad (Conrail/Norfolk Southern).

Keith was a long-time sports car and racing enthusiast, working numerous hill climb races on Mount Penn, and was a long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Forever the tinkerer, nature lover, and collector of things from books to records to plants and seeds, he occupied his time in retirement maintaining his various vehicles and propagating many types of flora on his rural property which he dubbed “E’s Trees”. It was always a highlight for him to watch his grandchildren explore the gardens and play in the creek.

He is survived by his only sibling, his sister Karla Weikel Harper wife of Phil Szydlowski, by his daughters – Jenna L. Herman wife of Michael Herman, Cara N. Weikel partner of Mark Dawson, and by his grandchildren – Lily and Kiera Herman, and Violet and Konrad Heinly to whom he was known as “Poppa Keith”.
