Florence "Checkers" J. (Chiodi) Hummel

Florence J. “Checkers” Hummel, 96, of West Lawn, passed away of August 20, 2023.

        She was preceded by her husband of 59 years, Randall L. Hummel in 2006. Florence was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Teresa (Bralle) Chiodi.

        Florence attended Reading High and was a singer with the 1945 Castleaires dance band. She worked in numerous knitting mills and manufacturers in Reading and was a member of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club Auxiliary for over 50 years.

She is survived by her children – Letty A. Hummel of West Lawn, Randall D. Hummel, husband of Sharon (Ettel) Hummel of Maidencreek Township and Robin L. Gibson, wife of Henry H. Gibson of Spring Township. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  She also had a predeceased half brother, Edward Hosler.

        Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Tower Health Hospice.
