George Bayliss Obituary

George Stanton Bayliss, 83, of Reading, passed away May 27, 2024 (Memorial Day) in the Reading Hospital where he was a patient, with his devoted family by his side.

Born in Clarks Green, Lackawanna County, PA, he was a son of the late Francis and Mabel E. (Stanton) Bayliss. He was the husband of Brenda E. (Theisz) Bayliss. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September with a large family reunion.

George was employed as sales manager for the former Bayliss Oldsmobile of Reading. After retiring, he was a driver for the Highlands of Wyomissing and later as a driver at the Caron Foundation in Wernersville.

He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1959 and faithfully served his country around the world for 4 years. An avid athlete, he enjoyed playing football for the Coast Guard. He was a member of the West Lawn United Methodist Church, serving on many committees.

A 1958 graduate of Clarks Summit Abington High School, Clarks Summit, he also attended Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School in Kingston, PA, and later attended Trenton Junior College in 1964.

George was a member of Williamson Lodge No. 307 F&AM, Womelsdorf, Reading Consistory, Rajah Shrine, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Neversink Forest. While at Rajah, George served as president of the Rajah Shrine Club, was a member of the Legion of Honor, and both he and his wife were involved with the circus for many years. He also served as president of the Board of Directors for the PA Jr. Miss organization and the Clinton, NJ Kiwanis Club.

He enjoyed boating, all water sports at their Rehoboth, DE summer home, their pinochle group, entertaining, traveling, and painting. Above all, he loved his sons and extended family. Of all of George’s hobbies, talents and joys, the ones that brought the most delight to his life were his four grandchildren. George’s love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. His pride radiated. Pa’s presence was more than a mere attendance; it was a testament to the bonds he shared with each grandchild. The applause, the laughter, and the shared memories created a beautiful tapestry of love and connection which will never be forgotten.

George is survived by his loving wife Brenda, his sons, G. Todd Bayliss, Reston, VA and Craig S. Bayliss, husband of Jennifer, Doylestown, and his grandchildren – Brian, Brooke, Kennedy and Piper. His first great grandchild is expected in July. He was predeceased by his siblings – Frances (Jones), Kenneth, Betty (Ludwig), Richard and Ronald.
