Heber J. Griffith

Heber J. Griffith, 88, of Brecknock Township, passed away July 7, 2017 at 12:30 AM in the Reading Hospital where he was a patient since June 27th. He was the beloved husband of Thelma G. (Everhart) Griffith. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 27th. Born in Mohnton, he was a son of the late Samuel Maggie (Graf) Griffith. Heber served as a Sgt. in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for 19 years at Hettinger Brothers on N. 3rd St, Reading and then spent the next 25 years as a Morgan Mill Operator, #4 Mill at Carpenter Technology, retiring in 1993. Heber was a member of Allegheny U.C.C. where he was a former consistory member and a former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Brecknock Fire Co. and served on the Governor Mifflin School board during the 1960's. Heber was fully devoted to his family and enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard, word search puzzles and was an avid Reading Phillies fan. Surviving in addition to his loving wife are his children - Dudley J. husband of Barbara Griffith, Sinking Spring; Kim M. wife of Donald L. Holland, Mohnton; Deana M. Griffith, Mohnton and his 3 grandchildren - Christopher J. husband of Aimee Griffith, Hanna M. Holland, Wesley L. Holland and his great granddaughter - Samantha. Also surviving is his brother - Samuel husband of Hazel Griffith, Mohnton. He was predeceased by his half-brother - Sylvester Remp and his brothers - William Harvey, Robert and Ernest. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM in Allegheny U.C.C., 1219 Kurtz Mill Road, Mohnton, PA 19540. Rev. Dr. Martha M. Smith will officiate. Interment in Allegheny Union Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 -10:30 AM at the church. Please remember Heber by making contributions to Allegheny UCC at the above address.
