Obituary

Henry (Hank) Sibley Sedgwick, Jr., 85, of Bern Township, passed away June 19, 2023 at Reading Hospital with his children by his side.

Born February 25,1938 in Evanston, IL he was the son of Henry Sibley Sedgwick and Ruth Hayden Sedgwick. He was the husband of Gayle Preston Sedgwick, sharing 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2021.

After his early childhood in Illinois, Hank lived in Morrisville, PA and was a 1955 Pennsbury High School graduate where he was a member of the football and track teams. He then attended Lehigh University and was a brother and president of ATO fraternity. He graduated with a business degree in 1960 and started his career as a manager for Sears. Hank then worked in the garment industry before he and three partners formed Viatech, a material handling company. He finished his professional career as a real estate agent in Bucks and Berks counties.

In his free time, Hank had many interests. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, with activities like raising animals as a young child in Illinois, tending to vegetable gardens or taking “extra” swings on the golf course. He also enjoyed the 19th hole and cheering on his Philadelphia sports teams. Hank liked tennis, reading, history and crossword puzzles. He was a great card player and played gin rummy, bridge and poker. Hank was part of the “Pieces of Eight” poker group that played monthly for many years in Lower Makefield. He also volunteered his time as an elder of Woodside Presbyterian Church and was an instrumental part of the building committee.

Hank had a colorful personality and his feistiness kept him “kicking and screaming” all the way until the end.

Hank is survived by his children Cynthia Sedgwick Huls wife of Keith Huls, Morgantown, PA, Henry Sibley Sedgwick, III husband of Veronica Sedgwick, Morgantown, PA, five grandchildren- Jennifer, Andrew, Matthew, Michael and Nathan, brother-in-law Samuel Preston husband of Winnie Preston. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Dorion.

Hank will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank the staff at Berks Heim and Reading hospital for the care and compassion they provided.
