Jane K. Rehr, 95, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024 in her home.
Born May 4, 1929 in Windber, Somerset County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Oliver F. and Mary Jo (McCoy) Klemstine. She was the wife of the late James F. Rehr with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2013.
Jane graduated from Windber High School in 1947. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree at Hood College in Frederick, MD where she majored in Sociology and minored in History. During this time Jane also had the honor of being selected as the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.
While attending a school dance fate intervened and she met the love of her life, Jim Rehr. The pair went on to surprise their families by eloping on March 14, 1952 in Alexandria, VA. During their first years of marriage Jane & Jim lived in several different areas – with Bay Ridge, NY being one of their most memorable.
Throughout her life Mary Jane enjoyed many activities including tennis, skiing, drawing and traveling. She was also an avid football fan and spent many Sunday afternoons rooting for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Jane also loved to read and worked as a librarian at Horseheads Jr. High East in the 1980’s. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading, PA. She also had a deep love for animals, especially their dog Tai. One of Jane's greatest joys was playing Scrabble and cards with her daughter Kimberly and granddaughters Abigail & Tara.
Jane will be lovingly remembered forever by her daughter Kimberly Jo James, fiancé of Robert A. Rice, granddaughter Abigail Rose James, fiancé of Brian Bolivar, granddaughter Tara Jane James and devoted and caring family friend Marie Vargas.
