John W. Yaklich, 86, of Spring Township, passed away July 30, 2023 at 9:30 PM in his residence.
Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Anthony C. and Dorothy M. (Eckenroth) Yaklich. He was the husband of Janet A. (Nagle) Yaklich. They celebrated 56 years of marriage.
John served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing. He was a 1954 graduate of Reading High School, received his BS from Kutztown University in 1958 and his Masters of Education from West Chester University in 1966. While at Kutztown he played baseball.
He was a teacher at the Reading School District for over 38 years before retiring. John taught at N.E. Junior High and Reading High School and he also coached football at both the Jr. and Sr. High School. In his younger days, he was active with the Olivet’s Boys Club. He enjoyed reading, traveling to the Outer Banks, surf & fly fishing, and watching and listening to baseball, especially the Phillies and Yankees.
In addition to his wife Janet, he is survived by his daughters – Mary J. wife of Stephen J. Bishop, Exeter Twp., Charlene Y. wife of Michael J. Kwas, Wyncote, PA, and his grandson – Daniel J. Bishop. He was predeceased by his brother – Dr. Anthony R. Yaklich in 2021.
