Karen Lynn (Kraynak) McNichols, 60, of Cumru Township and formerly of Dallas, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward B. and Edith A. (Fritz) Kraynak. Karen shared 15 wonderful years of marriage with her loving husband, Robert McNichols Jr.
A 1983 graduate of Dallas (PA) High School, Karen was a competitive elite gymnast and carried that same energy and enthusiasm throughout her life. She continued her education at Penn State University, where she was active as a “little sister” at the Kappa Sigma fraternity. She later shared her passion for the sport by training and inspiring many young gymnasts.
Karen worked as Case Manager at HealthSouth and also worked as a Data Analyst for the Pennsylvania Healthcare Cost Containment Council in Harrisburg, where she contributed her time and expertise with dedication.
In addition to her devoted husband, Karen is survived by her step-son, Bobby McNichols III, his partner Kayla Lowe, of Douglassville; her sisters, Ann E. Rodriguez (Gene) of Nebo, NC, and Lori L. Rice (Doug) of Mechanicsburg, PA; her brother, Mark E. Kraynak of Denver, CO; Special niblings Tori, Alex, Cole, Alexa & Zach and Karen’s Alaskan Malamute Aya (Ayahuasca).
Karen will be deeply missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and the Allen family who are lifelong friends that became family. Her Gymnast & Greek friends will also miss Karen. Karen drew people in with her beautiful eyes, intoxicating smile and open heart.
Funeral Services for Karen will be private at the convenience of her family. Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1 E. Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, PA, is honored to be assisting her family during this very difficult time. www.kleefuneralhome.com
