Leonard “Lennie” Edwin Fritz, 84, of Micco, FL, passed away Thursday, April 3rd with family by his side. Lennie was a lover of fishing, clamming, crabbing, and operating his boats, the “No-Knu” and the “Silver Dolphin”, up and down the Indian River Bay. He was also a Scoutmaster for Troop 36 and was very proud of his oldest son and two of his grandsons who made Eagle Scout. An avid Yankees fan, he loved spending time with his family, playing card games, and going out to eat. He just loved to eat. He was especially fond of seafood and could always be counted on to order a Diet Coke. Lennie also dabbled in carpentry/ woodworking as well as photography and even built his own dark room.
He was born to the late Edwin Fritz and Clarabell Miller Fritz on June 16th, 1940, in Andreas, Pennsylvania. Lennie was raised by his stepmother, Fern Miller Fritz Snyder, after his mother passed in 1942, and he was greatly influenced by Fern’s second husband, Adam Snyder, after the passing of his father in 1974.
He graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1957 and attended East Stroudsburg University before he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960 where he eventually reached the rank of 2nd Class Machinist’s Mate. He served with pride for 6 years on the submarine U.S.S. Blenny, the submarine U.S.S. Irex, and the cruiser U.S.S. Little Rock. He was known in his later years as a proud veteran with a great love for his country. The Navy also taught Lennie his trade. He was a refrigeration engineer for more than 35 years where he worked for Bally Case & Cooler and then with Galaxy Marketing.
Leonard married Mary Lou Moyer on October 31, 1964. They lived together in Reading, PA until 1968 when they moved to Gilbertsville, PA. They lived and raised their children there until 2000 when they moved to Micco, FL. They were married for 60 years.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Micco, FL, and his children, Kenneth Fritz of Vero Beach, FL, Tammy Wind of Jacksonville, FL, and Keith Fritz of Phoenixville, PA and their spouses. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 step-great grandchildren. He was also aware that another great-granddaughter was on the way.
