Marita S. (Simcik) Buynak

Marita S. Buynak, 79, of Spring Township, passed away June 23, 2025, in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, where she was a patient since June 16th.

Born in Hazelton, Luzerne County, she was a daughter of the late William and Magdalen (Jenco) Simcik. She was the wife of the late John E. Buynak, Jr., who passed away April 15, 2013. They celebrated 29 years of marriage.

Marita was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She was an RN working at the Reading Hospital for 43 years, retiring in 2010. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield, First Catholic Slovaks Ladies Association, and served on the reunion committee at St. Joseph’s Nursing School. She loved orchids, gardening, poppyseed rolls, halupki, watching General Hospital and shopping at Boscov’s. Marita loved her dog, Milton.

She is survived by her daughter Jillian E. Buynak, Whitfield, a brother John Simcik, NC and two additional brothers and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grand puppies – Milton and Lily. She was predeceased by a brother and sister – Andrea Blue.

Viewing from St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive, Whitfield, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 AM followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
