Marvin R. “Jim” Gilmer, 82, of Cumru Township, passed away September 29, 2024, in the Reading Hospital.
Born in Leesport, he was a son of the late Marvin and Emma H. (Mertz) Gilmer. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Gechter) Gilmer.
Jim worked at Firestone, for Bern Township, and was a mechanic for CJ Tires until retiring. He enjoyed NASCAR, the Phillies, bowling, yard sales, and bird watching. In his younger days, he enjoyed cars, motorcycles, and racing.
Surviving in addition to his wife Pat are his children: James R. Gilmer husband of Hannah J. Martin, West Lawn, Mike Gilmer, Muhlenberg Twp., Scott Gilmer, and Beth Ann, his sister Marvine A. “Mag” Esser, Lebanon, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings Roger I. “Bunk” Gilmer, John H. “Hop” Gilmer, E. Arline Rothermel, and Bessie E. “Beck” Potteiger. The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Mifflin Center for their four years of care of dad.
Graveside services are on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM in Leesport Cemetery. The Honorable David L. Yoch will officiate.
