Myra Lou Bernhart, formerly of Shillington, passed away May 7, 2024 in her daughter’s North Lebanon Township residence.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Violet (Eshbach) Reichart. She was the wife of the late James W. Bernhart who passed away January 2, 2022. They shared 59 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Myra was a graduate of Reading High School and Pace Institute. She was a member of Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bern Township, and a former member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Reading, where she taught Sunday School. Myra started as a bookkeeper at Albright College, then was the owner of the former Bernhart’s Fabrics at 910 N. 12th Street, Reading, where she loved teaching sewing. She later worked in the sewing room at the Reading Hospital, and in the tax claim office at the Berks County Services Center for the last 9 years, retiring Dec. 23, 2008.
She is survived by her daughter Marie wife of Pete Patestas, Lebanon, her granddaughters – Vanessa Brossman fiancé of Tiago DaLuz, Tiffany wife of Casey Tobin, her grandsons – Yanni Patestas, Matthew Patestas, her great grandchildren – Giovanna DeLuz, Gabriela DeLuz, Lily Acker, Gerald Acker, Baylen Tobin, Paxton Tobin, nine nieces and five nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Gehret.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church, 820 W. Leesport Road, Leesport, PA 19533. Douglas F. Didyoung, Sr. will officiate. Interment in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. Viewing Saturday from 9-10 AM at the church.
