Pauline Wetzel Obituary

Pauline M. (Geiss) Wetzel, beloved mother, Mummum and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in the Reading Hospital at the tender age of 98.  Born in Leesport, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Annie R. (Kreider) Geiss, and the widow of Charles O. Wetzel, who passed in 2008, after 31 wonderful years of marriage.

Pauline lived an extremely full life defined by kindness, generosity, and a deep devotion to those she loved.  She dedicated her entire life to caring for others – whether it was family, friends, or anyone in need of a listening ear and a warm heart.  Pauline had an uncanny ability to make people feel safe, loved and welcome.

But she wasn’t just a loving caregiver – Pauline was famous for her quick wit and perfectly timed one-liners.  She could turn even the toughest days into ones filled with smiles.  Her family often said that her secret recipe for life included equal parts love, compassion and a great sense of humor.

Pauline enjoyed traveling with her family, whether it be across the country with her beloved Bud, or quick road trips to fabulous, more local destinations.  She particularly looked forward to annual trips with her great-grandchildren to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

As long as she was with family, Pauline had a contagious smile on her face.  She loved country music, cheering on the 76ers - at home on TV and in person two years ago in Philadelphia - board games and cards, and trips to Atlantic City and the local casinos.

Pauline was also a skilled crafter, from handmade jewelry and Christmas ornaments, to treasured tea towels she made into cherished keepsakes.  But most of all, she simply loved filling her home with incredible smells of her PA Dutch cooking and then having the entire family over for dinner and insatiable laughter.

Pauline is survived by her daughter Barbara Phillips, widow of Roger, and the true lights in her life: four Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and seven Great-Great Grandchildren.

A true Celebration of Pauline’s wonderful life well-lived will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Klee Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., One East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, PA, with Pastor Brett Reider, retired from West Wyomissing Chapel, presiding.  Viewing from 10:00-11:00M in the funeral home.  Burial will follow her service at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
