Richard W. Barnett

Richard W. Barnett, 86, of Cumru Township, passed away on February 9, 2025, in the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Born in West Reading, he was the youngest of eight children born to the late Paul and Mabel (Rudy) Barnett.  Dick was married to his high school sweetheart Marie E. (Aufferman) Barnett having enjoyed 62 years of a wonderful marriage together.

Dick was part of the first graduating class of the “new’ Governor Mifflin High School in 1957.  He was a proud military veteran serving our country in Germany for the U.S. Army.  He worked for 36 years as a furnace operator at Carpenter Technology retiring in 1999.

Family meant the world to Dick.  He was so very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed attending their school, sports and extracurricular events.  He enjoyed family get-togethers which often included playing cards and board games.   Dick also enjoyed camping, bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing and helping his family with projects in their homes.  Dick enjoyed his ’65 Mustang convertible – showing it often at local car shows.

In addition to his wife, Marie, Dick is survived by his children: Jill Kantner (wife of Steve), Cumru, Kim Bressler (wife of Mike), Womelsdorf, Gail Bacon (wife of Dan), Hughesville, MD and Gregg Barnett (husband of Christine), Gouglersville.  He especially enjoyed being the “best grandpa” to his eight grandchildren:  Mallory, Josiah, Daniel, Hannah, Kelly, Alex, Daniel, Jr. and Colin and three great-grandchildren:  Karter, Khloe and Theodore.

Services for Dick are private at the convenience of the Barnett family with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery.  Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Shillington is assisting with the services.
