Richard K. Burkhart, of Brecknock Township, Berks County died on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his home after a long illness.
Born in the Reading Hospital on September 17, 1950, Rich was the son of the late Richard and Alverta J. (Seifrit) Burkhart. He grew up on a farm outside of Adamstown, PA and was a 1968 graduate of Garden Spot High School. He attained a degree in mechanical design from Penn State Berks and worked for Sanders and Thomas, followed by RCA, and then as a mechanical designer for Thomson Consumer Electronics, which sent him all over the world to supervise the installation of the machines and equipment he designed. Before retiring, he worked as a senior designer for Carpenter Technology.
Rich was an avid history buff who liked farming and hunting and was a musician, playing guitar and singing in the band "Beechwood" in the early 1970’s. He was a member of the Horseshoe Trail Conservancy, The Allegheny Mennonite Historical Society, and the National Rifle Association. Rich served on the Brecknock Township Planning Commission and was elected Brecknock Township Supervisor for 18 years. He was a longtime member of Allegheny Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as council president. In his last years he was a member of St. John Center Lutheran Church.
Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna (Loht) Burkhart, three sons: Troy L., Brandon C., Jonathan R., and grandchildren Alexandra and Henry Burkhart. He was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Burkhart Meiskey.
