Richard Hoffmaster Obituary

Richard E. Hoffmaster, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in his Muhlenberg Township home.  Born in Reading, he was one of five sons of Jacqueline J. (Mosser) and the late Ronald E. Hoffmaster.

Rick was a 1976 graduate of Reading High School and lived in Muhlenberg Township for over 30 years.  He firmly believed in giving back to his community, and worked tirelessly in his passion to keep Muhlenberg Township moving forward, dedicating decades of service to numerous organizations.  He served 28 years on the Muhlenberg Township School District Board of Directors, including as Board Treasurer, and also 28 years on the Reading-Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center Board, also as Treasurer, where he also worked part-time as a daily substitute teacher.

Rick was elected to the Muhlenberg Township Board of Commissioners in 2023, serving as the liaison to Fire and Safety Management.  Rick was also a former President of the Muhlenberg Township Athletic Association (MTAA), served as Secretary of the Muhlenberg Township Authority Board, and was a proud supporter of United Labor Council of Reading and Berks, serving as organizer of their annual Labor Day Parade for many years.

Rick worked for many years at Dana Corporation, prior to the closure of the Reading plants.  He then was a devoted laborer with the Muhlenberg Township Authority, where he worked until retiring in 2021.

Above all else, family meant the most to Rick, and he was happiest when attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.  He especially enjoyed attending WWE wrestling matches with his grandsons and traveling to Orlando to visit his granddaughter.  He was also an avid Packers and Phillies fan.

Rick is survived by his mother, Jacqueline J. (Mosser) Hoffmaster, Mohrsville, his son Matthew E. Hoffmaster, husband of Erin, Sinking Spring, and daughter Stacy A. Ortiz, significant other of Luis Torres, Reading, and four grandchildren:  Kayla, Jonathan, Cole and Harper, along with brothers Robert Hoffmaster (Debbie), Mohrsville, Randy Hoffmaster, New York, and Terry Hoffmaster (Pam), Sinking Spring.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother Russell Hoffmaster.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30PM, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in the Redners’ Event Center at First Energy Stadium, 2024 Centre Avenue, Reading, with a viewing from 9:30AM-12:30PM in the Event Center.  Burial will follow the service in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.  We are asking attendees to wear Phillies or Muhlenberg High School items/colors to celebrate Rick’s passions.
