Russell J. Rose, 71, of South Heidelberg Twp., passed away March 30, 2017 in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was a patient. He was the loving husband of Maria T. Fotis. Born in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Michael and Rose Marie (Knabb) Rose. Russell owned and operated the Flag Shoppe, Sinking Spring for 16 years. The business started as Wagner Flags before Russell renamed it. He served as a combat medic for the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. While serving he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Campaign Medals and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a 1963 graduate of Johnathan Dayton H.S., Irvington, NJ, a 1967 Graduate of Bethany College, Bethany, WV with a Bachelor of Science degree and loved spending time in his garden. Of everything Russell did, his wife Maria was his life. In addition to Maria, he is survived by his children - Amy wife of Peter Francek, Maple Glen, PA, Patrick husband of Allison (Fritch) Rose, Phila, his siblings - Michael husband of Gertrude Rose, Charlottesville, VA, Meta wife of Donald Pace, Raleigh, NC and his grandchildren - Luke, Jay and Emily Margaret. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Klee Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., One East Lancaster Ave., Shillington.
