Ruth F. Wright of Wyomissing, passed away at her residence on July 1, 2024. She was born on July 14, 1923, to the late Frank and Gladys (Dibble) Fetterly in Elkhart, Indiana. She was the youngest of four children.
Ruth attended Elkhart High School and graduated in 1941. She worked at Miles Laboratories, Elkhart, until the time of her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Wilbur Wright, on March 10,1946. They moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after they were married and Ruth worked at AGMA until the birth of her first child, Deborah (Debbie) in 1951. Her second child, Thomas (Tom), was born in 1954. Her third child, Gregory, was born in 1955.
Ruth and her husband resided in the Pittsburgh area where Ruth was actively involved in her children’s activities and her church until 1965 when they moved back to their home town of Elkhart, Indiana. It was there that Ruth was an active member of the Elcona Curling Club and Tri Kappa Sorority.
Ruth and Wilbur moved to the Reading area in 1973 when Wilbur changed jobs. They both were very active in Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington. Ruth served as elder and president of Consistory and coordinated the Parish Visitors Ministry. Ruth was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood.
Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed many exercise classes over the years. She loved visiting friends and acquaintances at the Highlands, Wyomissing, especially those in skilled nursing and memory care. She was an avid Phillies Fanatic and loved watching their games. Ruth loved all kinds of animals, especially dogs.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Jack) Werthman of Lee’s Summit, MO, and her son, Tom (Lisa) Wright of West Lafayette, IN; four grandchildren: Michael Browne of Lee’s Summit, MO, Barbara ( Mark) Seckler of Orlando, FL, Peter (Lauren) Browne of Overland Park, KS, and Whitney Wright of West Lafayette, IN; two step-grandchildren: Jeanette Werthman of Independence, MO, and David Werthman of Boston, MA; four great grandchildren: Noah and Naomi Browne of Overland Park, KS, and Micah and Alice Seckler of Orlando, FL.
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, siblings, infant son Gregory, husband and granddaughter, Bethany Wright.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Highlands Cultural Center, Wyomissing, on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 99 S.
