Scott Franklin Baer, 64, of Lewes, DE and formerly of Fleetwood, PA, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Scott is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christi (Sarfert) Baer, two daughters; Nicole Hower (husband Nathan) and Samantha Baer-Gibson (husband Troy), five grandchildren; Peyton, Kendall, and Avery Hower, and Tenley and Elliott Gibson, two sisters; Heidi Baer and Holly Thaler (husband Dave), brother-in-law, James Sarfert (wife Suzanne), as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his parents, Franklin (Skip) Baer and Dorothy(Kohut) Baer.
Scott was a graduate of Whitehall High School (‘79) and the United States Naval Academy (‘83). In high school, Scott played football and baseball. He was a recipient of the Lehigh Valley Scholar Athlete Award during his senior year. In the Navy, he served on a Nuclear Submarine, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. After an honorable discharge, Scott continued in the reserves for 13 years while also having a career at Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, PA, where he retired in 2016.
Scott’s family was his pride and joy. He was actively involved with his childrens’ activities which included coaching youth soccer and attending countless swim meets, basketball games, soccer games and volleyball matches. Scott proudly served on the Fleetwood Area School Board for eight years, and was elected president of the board for his last two years. Scott was a big advocate and volunteered his time for the organizations Skills USA and The Five Star Heart Project. Additionally, Scott served as Vice President for the Lewes Crossing HOA.
Scott was an avid lover of the outdoors and in staying active. His hobbies included both mountain and road biking, as well as spending time on the golf course. Scott fulfilled one of his biggest dreams when he was able to play a round of golf at The Olde Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. Scott loved to travel the world with both family and friends, and was fortunate to have one final trip to Jamaica with his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren in tow.
Scott will be deeply missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know him. May he always be remembered as an Officer and a Gentleman with a smile on his face.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Klee Funeral Home, One East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, PA at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, with a visitation in the funeral home from 9:30-11:00 am. A private burial will be held at the United States Naval Academy at a later date.
