Thaddeus Joseph Tomkiewicz, MD, 88, formerly of Reading, passed away October 3, 2024 at Chestnut Knoll where he was a guest since December 2022.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Karolina S. (Klimkowski) Tomkiewicz.
He was a graduate of Reading High School, Albright College, BS Biology/Chemistry, Hahnemann University, MD, and Drexel University.
Dr. Tomkiewicz was an Emergency Department Physician at St. Joseph Hospital retiring in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a Captain during the Vietnam War. He was the commanding officer, U.S. Army Dispensary, Indiantown Gap. During his time serving, he was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.
He was a member of the Berks County Medical Society and an Executive Board Member, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American College of Emergency Physicians, Chief, Emergency Room - St. Joseph Hospital, Director – Department of Emergency Medicine, St. Jospeh Hospital, Member Medical Advisory committee, EMS Council, Board of Directors, EPEMS Council, Medical coordinator, Berks County EMS Training Institute, and Doctors Convenient Care Center.
He was predeceased by his sisters Sally Franks, Wanda Bossler and Herminia Stiely. He is survived by a niece and nephew.
