Thomas P. Johnson

        Thomas P. Johnson, 75, of Shillington, passed away July 11, 2023 at Penn State Health-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center where he was a patient.

        Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Paul K. and Jeanne M. (Speck) Johnson.

        Tom graduated from Governor Mifflin High School in 1965, where he ran cross country and track, and from Kutztown State College in 1969 where he was also a runner. He worked in different capacities from 1969-2009 at the Reading School District as a teacher, cross country and track coach, at RSD Night School, and as a hearing officer. In recent years, he coached at Governor Mifflin High School. Tom enjoyed seeing the athletes he coached succeed both on and off the track.

        Tom was extremely interested in Hammer Films from the late 1950’s -1970’s and wrote 8 books about the films, actors, and production staff. Some of the people involved in the movies became Tom’s personal friends.

        Tom attended Calvary Baptist Church, Tuesday night Dinner Church and Rosedale Grove. He volunteered in many ways assisting others and his final act was being an organ donor.

He is survived by his brother David P. husband of Dianne Johnson, Shillington, his aunt Phoebe Johnson, Chicago, IL, his cousins – Doug Johnson, Royersford, Dennis Johnson, Chicago, IL and his friend Elaine Hahn, Reading.

        Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM from Calvary Baptist Church, 510 Park Ave., Reading, PA 19611. Pastor Russell Weidel will officiate.
