Varnum Hayes \"Moonie\" Vernon, 93, of Cumru Township, passed away April 2, 2018 at 9:15 PM in Mifflin Center, where he was a guest since January 14th. He was the husband of the late Marilyn E. (Slichter) Vernon who passed away June 13, 2016. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing. Born in Berkshire Heights, he was the son of the late Varnum H. Vernon, Jr. and Grace (Wentzel) Vernon. Moonie worked as a machinist for CarTech for 44 years, retiring in 1987. Moonie served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a 1943 graduate of Wilson High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He was a member of the West Lawn Owls Club, Gouglersville Fire Company and Clover Park A.A. He is survived by his children - Michael H. Vernon, Manheim, Scott B. Vernon, husband of Lisa Vernon, Robeson Twp., Leigh Anne wife of Howie Congdon, Mill Hall, PA, his grandchildren - Bradley Vernon, Sarah Vernon, Rachelle McClellan, Andrew Marsden, Rachel Marsden and his great grandchildren - Kade Vernon and Sophie Vernon. He was predeceased by his sister - Hazel Werner and his grandson - Michael Hayes Vernon, Jr. who passed in 1987.
