Beatrice E. Fritzinger, Army Nurse, School Nurse
Beatrice E. Fritzinger, 99, formerly of Freeland, passed away February 4, 2021 at Mountain Top Senior Care and Rehab Center, Mountain Top, Luzerne County, PA where she was a resident. She was married to the late Wesley Fritzinger for 65 years until the time of his death in 2013. Born in Freeland, PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward W. and Martha E. (Yeager) Drum. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Reformed United Church of Christ in Freeland.
Beatrice served in the 2nd World War in the Army Air Corp for 2 years in the European Theater of Operations ranked as a First Lieutenant. She served as a school nurse for 32 years in the Freeland and the Hazleton area until she retired in 1980, though she kept her nursing license active until the age of 89. She belonged to many organizations pertaining to her work, plus social organizations.
Baa, as she was known to those closest to her, was an incredible woman with a strong love for God, Country, and family. She was and will always be a Soldier and a Nurse. Baa personified strength, courage, and love. She was an inspiration to the people around her.
She will be fondly remembered for many joyous visits spent playing UNO and talking on the porch.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, spanning several generations.
Memorial service in Freeland Cemetery, Freeland, PA will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. John’s Reformed United Church of Christ, 829 Washington Street, Freeland, PA 18224.
