Obituary

Brian “Mike” Kurczewski, 77, of Shillington, passed away November 15, 2017, in the Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Susan G. (Hanley) Kurczewski to whom he was married for 51 years. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Sarah A. (Ruth) Kurczewski. He was a 1957 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School. Mike was self-employed as owner and operator of Shillington Roofing Company for over 50 years, and he could always be spotted driving around in his red truck. He was a lifetime member of Keystone Fire Company #1, Shillington, where he served as a volunteer and held many positions within the organization. In addition to Keystone Fire Co., Mike was a lifetime member of multiple organizations including: Clover Park Athletic Association, Pennwyn Motor Association, and Schuylkill Hunting Club. Mike was also a 32nd degree Freemason and was named Shillington’s “Outstanding Citizen” for 2013. He was a member of the Reading Civic Opera Society, volunteering his talents both on and off stage for many years. His greatest joy later in life was spending time with his grandsons and his family. Mike’s family would like to extend a special Thank You to the MICU staff of the Reading Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care that was given to him during his illness. In addition to his wife, survivors include: daughters Michele Kurczewski, of Shillington and Melinda Genovese, of Vienna, VA; Melinda’s husband Nick and their sons Louis and Anthony; Mike’s brother David Kurczewski and his wife Donna, of Mohnton; and nephew Matt and niece Amy and Matt’s children Sarah and Ben. A celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington, starting at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dale Davis will officiate. Interment, with Fire Department Honors, in St. John’s Cemetery, Gibraltar. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
