Richard E. Brandt, 88, of Newmanstown passed away May 22, 2021 at 3:55 PM at the Hershey Medical Center.
He was the husband of Lorraine “Liz” E. (Hoffer) Brandt. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on May 2nd. Born in Campbelltown, Lebanon County, he was a son of the late Amos G. and Rhoda (Kling) Brandt.
Rich’s family owned and operated Brandt’s Hardware in Campbelltown until 1964. Rich was owner of Brandt Farm and Land Real Estate, specializing in farm and land real estate, appraisal and land consulting for over 45 years.
Rich served as director Reading-Berks Assoc. of Realtors, Inc. for 8 years and president in 1989. He served as director of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors, he served as president of Pennsylvania Realtors Land Institute in 1986 and on their Board of Governors from 1983 – 1990. He was recognized as Realtor of the Year in 1986. Rich also served on the Wyomissing Hills sewer authority, borough council and was chairman of their streets department. Rich served as president for Fleetwing Acres, Real Estate Central, Inc., Tack Tar, Inc., Country Village Construction and Realty World Berks County. He was currently serving on the Millcreek Township Planning Commission, South Londonderry Historical Committee, Lebanon and Berks County Historical Research. With Rich’s vast knowledge of real estate and land planning he was called on many times as an expert witness in Washington, DC and was asked to speak at numerous events.
Rich was a member of Salem U.C.C. Campbelltown, a life member of Rajah Shrine, Past Commander Campbelltown Legion #831 from 1958-1959, Rajah Shrine LOH and was an active member of the Rajah Shrine Mounted Patrol. He was also a life member of the U.S.S. Albany 123 Assoc., and a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 435 F&AM and also served as the president of the Campbelltown Fire Company from 1957 – 1960.
Rich was a Scout Master and Councilman, Civil Defense Coordinator, Past Commander of America Legion Post #638 Campbelltown, Past President of Pennsylvania Ag. Republicans and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children – Kathy A. Pressley, Newmanstown, Richard Scott Brandt (Robin), Mt. Gretna, Debra A. Abel (Phillip), Lebanon, Douglas L. Brandt (Marilyn), Campbelltown, Jan M. Burkhart (Scott), Lebanon, Jody L. Koehler, Lebanon, Lori L. Kostival (Robert), Sinking Spring, Lisa L. Kelley (fiancé of Troy Gehr), Muhlenberg Twp. His sisters Mary Ruth Fowler, Douglassville and Dottie Black, Campbelltown. There are also 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rich’s visitation on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 1 East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington PA. Masonic Services by St. John’s Lodge No. 435 F&AM at 7:00 PM. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Salem U.C.C.
