Obituary

Donald R. Huesgen, 80, of Wernersville, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2021. Donald grew up in Marshall, Missouri, where he graduated from Marshall High School, then went on to attend and received a degree in both Health/Physical Education and Mathematics from Missouri Valley College. He later earned his master’s degree form Kutztown University in Curriculum and Instruction. Donald began teaching in the Mahanoy Area School District in 1967 and retired from teaching mathematics in the Northwestern Lehigh School District in 2001 after a career that spanned 34 years. During that time, Donald wore many different hats as a coach, acting as both an Assistant Football Coach, Assistant Wrestling Coach, and Head Wrestling Coach at various times.

While Donald had a passion for education and coaching, he was a Renaissance man with many hobbies and interests. He played semi-professional football for the Schuylkill County Coalcrackers in St. Clair, was a prolific fast-pitch softball player up until a little over a decade ago and would gladly challenge anyone standing near a ping-pong table to a game they would inevitably lose. He spent much of his free time as a gentlemAn farmer on his property in West Penn Township, raising and showing Irish Setters and amassed an impressive antique bottle and canning jar collection over the years. After his retirement, he was a fixture at his wife’s dance studio and would lace up a pair of tap shoes at the recital each year to entertain the crowd with his dancing skills.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Anna (Backes) Huesgen, and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Philomena S. (Diehl) Huesgen, of Wernersville, his children: Scott Baguhn, of Cincinnati, OH, Matthew, husband of Rev. Megan Huesgen, of Shillington, Robin, wife of Anthony Dominick, of Philadelphia, Allison Huesgen-Dilts, wife of Brian Dilts, of Conshohocken, and Erin, wife of Nathan Lewan, of Bel Air, MD, his ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
